Question Few questions

Just had a couple exhaust related questions for you guys

First off, I got a LMC truck catalog for my '79 F250 2wd, and one of the things they offered for broncos of that year is a "4x4 true dual" exhaust (LMC Truck Parts - Page 139). The deal is it collects off both manifolds individually, the passenger side shoots down the side like normal, but then the drivers side cuts under the engine and turns and goes down the passenger side too, so both pipes are running on the passenger side. Now to me, this doesn't seem like it would work, looking at the stock exhaust on my truck. There would be no room for 2 pipes without running into the driveshaft. Anyone know if this actually works?

Second, I was considering switching to a glasspack muffler, but there are multiple different brands. To me, the obvious was to go with Cherrybomb, because they have a good rap. But Thrush Magnum glasspacks are cheaper, and flowmaster makes some too. Which sounds the best?

Lastly, I was wondering if anyone (aside from L&L) make fenderwall exit headers for 2wd F250 with a 460? I would like to run true duals, but I can't inside the frame because I have dual tanks, and don't want to run a pipe right underneath the side tank (still unsure about the "4x4 true duals" from above") Feedback?

Thats easy, take it to a muffler shop. Prefabed kits don't fit anyway, and are basically designed to be installed by a muffler shop. A shop could probably build your system from scratch for less than any kit you can find, especially when you consider that almost all the kits have to be modified to fit correctly anyway.

As far as which glasspack, I really don't think it matters. They are all the same basic design, and will basically have the same sound.

Why would you really want true duals anyway? All true duals do is maximize torque loss and minimize power gains while maximizing weight. A well made single exhaust produces more torque, can get better fuel economy. All this while being less expensive. False duals can actually sometimes be louder and deeper than true duals as well.

I figured that duels are better for savaging off the manifold because of the length of the pipes and less bends right off the bat. Correct me if i'm wrong.

Nope, the opposite. True duals have more than double the surface area of singles. By merging the exhaust together smoothly, the pulses of exhaust can help each other, and that produces the scavenging effect. The more tubes you have, the less scavenging effect you have. True duals also have more bends, especially when you have to move around a gas tank. It would be better to bring the two sides together into a single pipe, the trick is more about how smooth the transition is, and that they are merging into an appropriately sized pipe.

There is plenty of room under the truck for true duals. Even with headers. I'd get the regular chassis mount headers, then 2 1/2" duals. Magnaflow has decent glasspacks. They have a perferated core and flow well. Summit has free shipping on Magnaflow stuff so your total order would ship free.
