I know you checked the firing order but did you check to make sure the rotor was at cyl 1 when it is supposed to be.
I bought my '68 from a chebby guy who told me he replaced the points. I pulled all the wires and replaced them. Than it took me forever and the hard way to find out he put the dist in backwards (180 deg out) and than proceeded to run the plug wires to match "his" way of installing the dist. Truck ran fine when I bought it and drove the hour home with no issues. If you pulled all the plug wires off I would check that.
That's exactly what it was. Pulled the distributor and set it the right way, was 180 degrees of. Also had to reset the points. Plugged all the wires back in and it started right up. Runs good now. Thanks everybody for your help. Ready to hit the road now....
