Well here is a odd thing done to me. I have the service maintenance policy. When in for warranty work, they billed out 5 gallons of def. And while they still had truck at a later date they billed my truck for another 5 gallons of def. And truck was not in for any def concerns at all. And mileage accured from the 1st time they put 5 in to the 2nd time was 45 miles. So on essence they stole 10 gallons of def from my policy. And when I confronted them I got the I don't know how that happened, and never did make it right. Dealers of today I don't have any confidence with.

I guess the dealer that i work at is one of the few honest places left. everytime we think something needs to be replaced we will have the guys in the service isle call the owner and tell them what needs to be done and let them make the decision. even somthing as simple as an airfilter we will ask first.
When I had my oil changed (1st one free - only cost $120) I used the free DEF coupon from Ford. The dealer filled the tank and left the unused portion in the jug on the floor.
In the front so I would be sure to see it.

looks like yuo got a good dealer or a honest service tech.
I think this is still more of the case that a few bad apples ruin the bunch.
I've had some really great service at dealerships, but then again a lot of that was major repair on my 6.4.....not the "quick lane" guys monkeying with my truck.
My Service writer did ask if I wanted to top off the fluid when I took it in for oil change... He thought that I was a real idiot when I asked "What Fluid?"
Then I informed him that the 6.2 doesn't use fluid (or diesel either)

You should have let them attempt ("the fluid" aka DEF) only on the condition you are carefully watching.
They walk over, open the fuel door and you would hope they would stop and say "uh...oh, you have the 6.2L."
Now if they continue to touch the fuel cap then you can take quick action.

I buy my DEF at NAPA, but I kept the Ford filler hose which works great and eliminates spilling (especially if you end up getting the tank full with some left in your container).
The price at NAPA is less than half of what Ford charges. I suppose you can even get it cheaper at a truck stop. I don't bring my truck into service unless that tank is full. I once paid through the roof -- that's enough. Fool me once....
The real problem is that when you bought your new truck it probably was not full with DEF. When I picked up my new F350 I asked them to check the DEF level. They added several gallons and tryed to charge me $20. I wasn't going to have any of that. It pi**** me off . . . . buy a $50k truck and have to add fluids before you drive it.

I specifically had it in writing that I wanted a full tank of fuel and all fluids topped off, including DEF. I also had them give me a 2.5 gallon container of DEF, as part of the deal. Figured it was easier to ask for it before I signed the papers, than later.
I went in to the dealer at 4000 miles for my first oil change and free DEF fill. The DEF top off showed up on the work order. 100 miles later the 800 mile warning light came on....Never went back
