I went in to the dealer at 4000 miles for my first oil change and free DEF fill. The DEF top off showed up on the work order. 100 miles later the 800 mile warning light came on....Never went back
Was the DEF really low, or did the computer have to be reset after they filled the DEF? I had an oil change and soon after the oil change light came on. They had to reset the computer.
The DEF was low but the warning light hadnt come on yet. I still asked them to fill it. There is nothing to be reset in the computer after you fill the DEF. The computer calculates the level automatically. The oil change reminder is different.
Honest mistake. When you fill a DEF tank, the jug will gurgle away, then it stops. Its very easy to interpret this as being full. Keep the filler in and it will continue to go in.
I've had some issues with more DEF showing up on the invoice than they put in, it looked to me to be an honest mistake when I brought it up. It pays to look things over before you hand over the money.
I'm not trying to hijack the thread here but I kept my filler tube and was going to reuse it to finish off a jug but it had a bunch of "crystalized" stuff fell out of it. I figured it was the dried up DEF from the last fill. Thank goodness I noticed it before that got into the tank but I'm just wondering if any of you have had the same problem? Would rinsing it out help?
After reading this, it sure would be nice if we could get a DEF meter like in the bigger trucks from Ford. That way you can always keep an eye on it. You always will know what you got.

To top off my DEF adventure, guess what I found on my back seat and on the rubber floor mat in the back seat? Dried DEF. . . white powder like, crystalized, splashed all over the place. I knew exactly what it was when I saw it. It was like they put the jug in my back seat and they splashed it. Just sloppy.
dealer did the same thing to me charged me 20 bucks to fill the DEF, about 3 weeks before that I had filled it at love's via their bulk tanks at $2.85 a gallon. so I was probably only about 1.25 gallons low. I will have to remember to tell them, I will be filling the DEF myself. when I took the truck in for the first oil change, they filled the DEF and left the jug in the back of the truck which was over half full
