power steering moan..

Sorry for the long post...
I blew the power hose apart a couple of months ago on the road. had to walk to an auto parts store and buy a new hose. I asked if my truck took a special power steering fluid. He said NO.. just use regular PS fluid. luckily i had my tool box behind my seat.
I pulled the inner fender and cooler tube off on the side of the road and changed the hose. I guess as i removed the small fitting from the power box, the bigger fitting moved and ripped the O-ring behind it and developed a slow leak. I drove it for about an hour and it finally stopped moaning. I rechecked and filled it, As i started my drive back home. 2 hr. Because of the slow leak, it started moaning again, I stopped to refill and on my way again. got home and posted it on here. You all said I needed to flush and use Motor craft AFT. I ran three quarts through it and refilled.
its been about two months and most of the moan has gone, but there is still a Low constant moan.. Do you guys think my Power box is on its way out now ??

thanks.. phil

Maybe there was still some PS fluid in there thats making it whine. I'd spend a couple bucks and flush it with some Mobil 1 ATF and see if the noise goes away. Its a lot cheaper then a new pump and it made my pump a little quieter.

EDIT: I just saw that you have a PSD. Did you pump the breaks and turn the wheel while you did the flush? The hydro boost stores some fluid under pressure so you have a pump of the brakes if the truck dies.
