I am entertaining the idea of putting a turnover ball in the wife's 150 for a short haul with the 4 horse gooseneck horse trailer. Trailer weighs in around 4800 empty so loaded it will tip the scales at 10k. One of my concerns is that can the rear axle handle the pin weight without any airbags? How much have you guys put in the back before it squatted?
Air bags may help level out the tow vehicle once the full weight of the trailer is on it, but that full weight is still on the rear axle. Air bags do not give you more weight carrying capacity.
Thanks for the response....i wasnt looking for an increase in rear axle carrying capability, just didnt want the weight over the axle to squat the rear end down to much with just the factory spring package. Not sure how much weight the springs can take before sagging to an unacceptable level.
It looks like most guys with fivers and TT are using airbags to help level them out. I really dont want to invest in airbags for something that gets pulled with the 350 in my signature 99 % of the time. Looks like the horses will have to stay home.
I have air bags on my "09 F-150 in the signature picture and tow a #7700 dry weight 5ver. Pin weight is about 1300#, and air bags with about 25-30 lb. level it perfectly.
I am a little disappointed.....was looking forward to seeing how the ecoboost would pull.
I am disappointed i wont get to tow with the Ecoboost. The truck is awesome but I am pretty sure the wife doesn't want me hanging air bags on it just yet.
