E4OD Programming & Shift Plus

I am told that when an E4OD transmission detects a certain fault or operating condition (high heat, perhaps?), it will send a fault code to the control module and then increase its internal operating pressure, which causes abrupt and harsher shifting until the code is reset. Can anybody tell me the purpose of this function? Is it to reduce heat or some other purpose? And does this harsh shifting increase wear and tear on the rest of the unit? Somebody said that a B&M Shift Plus just mimics the same condition to produce firmer shifts, but I wonder what other problems this causes. Thanks.

I've read that the B&M device increases line pressure across the board, which will harden shifts, but generates extra heat, pump wear, and is generally not good for the tranny.

I can't see any harm if you only raised the line pressure during the shift.

A shift kit, which modifies the valve body hydraulics and accumulators, seems to be the accepted way to get rid of soft shifting. The Transgo kit in my AODE works fine.
