Wrong tranny dipstick?
This could be causing my 4R100 problems (too much/little fluid).
Perhaps a kind soul with same truck will post a close up pic of their tranny dipstick?
The picture attached is from a TSB and depicts the tranny dipstick for my 1999 F250 SD. The problem is that my tranny dipstick looks like the one from described for a Taurus/Sable (with the loop on the end).
In fact, my part (Yellow handle that says Mercon) doesn't even have the little hole in it. If the pic doesn't work, the TSB is here:
99-5-3***TRANSMISSION - CHECKING TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL COLD - SERVICE TIP
Any help here would be great.

GOOD GOD! This forum ROCKS and so do you! Thanks for the fast reply!
Looks like I have the wrong freaking dipstick.
I have a V10....but the TSB doesn't delineate a difference.
Thanks again!

Glad to help.
To my knowledge all 4r100 dipsticks are the same regardless of motor.
A new dipstick should be less than $20 at your local dealership.

All Superduty 4R100 dipsticks are the same length. Vans are different.

The TSB definately shows that both of our trucks have the wrong STYLE on the ends. I'll measure and get back.

(Here come the puns)
I measured my stick and it's full inch shorter than Trey's.
I suspect I'm way over filled with fluid now.

Good thing I'm one of the rare V10-appreciating-7.3-owners or I could use that against you hahaha
Run down to your local ford dealership and pick one up

Thanks Mark,
The local Ford Dealer confirmed my p/n (f81p-7a020-aa) as the correct tranny dipstick for the 1999 6.8L/4R100 and advised me a 7.3L/4R100 simply had a different number.
Perhaps they are the same length as you described but mine measured an 1.50" shorted than Trey's 7.3L.
With that said, is there anyone out there with a 1999 V10/4R100 willing to measure their tranny dipstick?
My stick is 42" from looped wet end to the handles sealing surface at the fill tube.

If its the right P/N then dont worry about it, its the right length then.

Very well.
Thanks again Trey.
I guess I'm just paranoid of overfilling my trans.
