Good question, I have never swapped a AOD. I do know from swapping other trannies, even if you have the exact same model(c4 for a c4, c6 for a c6, etc) that there can be different lengths and different arms where the shifter lever hooks up. The arms are usually swappable, but you have to take the tranny pan and the valve body loose.
So the first thing I would do is compare the lengths of both trannies. Of course your truck would have to be a 2wd to even consider a car tranny working.
One thing to be very careful with, the TV cable, the one from the throttle body to the transmission outer lever. It is NLA I have been told. Adustment is critical and is probably why yours lost OD.

My Grand Pa always had trouble with the trans in this truck. He even had it rebuilt a few yrs before he passed away and the OD didn't last long after that. It sat for 3yrs after he passed, until I got it to restore and now I'm learning a lot about the notorious AOD! LOL
