I have seen a bunch of these on several trucks. Mine has a few as well. Tailgate, front fenders are beginning to do the same.
I can find the emblems all day long on E-Bay or buy them from Ford, but there must be a way to fix these. Has anyone tried and been successful? Suggestions?
Aside from buying new badges, using acetone to remove all of the paint is the next best thing. Mask off the body panel paint around the badge and below it. Then using a Q-tip, or small soft bristle brush, start scrubbing with the acetone. It takes a little time, but when you are done, the badges will be clean down to the chrome finish. It's up to you if you want to restore them with paint in the appropriate areas, once they're stripped.
I used dollar car wash when the truck was two used old (2005) and have never worried about it since...it did kind of **** me off but too much money to replace them .
I have been toying with the idea of removing the old paint on the numbering, then masking off the area around the "F350" on the badges, then roughing up the numbering surface with some fine steel wool for new paint. Then take a bottle of touch-up paint (the same color of the truck) and carefully paint the masked off numbers/letter back in with the touch-up paint.
My truck is the wedgewood blue over silver. I think that the wedgewood blue color would look nice in on "F350" in the badge lettering.
I've been toying with this idea for a while but haven't taken the time to do it.... Yet. If someone beats me to it, please post up the results. Maybe I'll get the motivation if someone else does it successfully.
I went to my local sign man and got some colored sign tape, (or any wide tape) stuck it on the emblem and cut out the 250. I did mine in fire engine red to match the fx4 .Looks real good.
There have been numerous ideas when it comes to the badges on our trucks. Bayou Burt hit on one, and here is one based on the same direction as a "sign shop"
