Fuel flow problems...

I posted earlier concerning fuel problems with my 75 F150 w/ 385 series 460. I installed a new mechanical fuel pump and was having trouble with the engine running for any distance. I flushed the tank, replaced lines, new sending unit and loosened cap to assure venting. All helped for a short while and then nothing...no fuel to carb line. I figured it may be the eccentric cam because pump works fine when pumping by hand. I also noticed some grind off marks on right hand side of pump arm. Not wanting to tear down front of engine I opted for an in line electric pump (Airtex model E8012S) which is supposed to deliver 7 - 9 psi at 42 gph, greater than stock mechanical. Truck started and ran shortly then acted like it was starving for fuel and died. I pulled the line at the carb and there was no pressure build up and when I switched pump on there was very little flow (no head at all). I ran electrical through "on" wire from ignition. Is there not enough current to fully operate pump? I am at my wits end with this on going FUEL ISSUE!!! Anyone? Any ideas?

My 75 F-250 also had a problem with fuel delivery near the fuel pump on the engine. I think that the problem was with the headers vapor locking the fuel in the metal fuel line where the fuel line exits from inside the frame rail and heads towards the fuel pump. The metal line was so close to the header that it would get heat-soaked. Since I insulated that line with foam tube insulation and then a reflective lining I have not had any problems.

There have been some issues with Airtex pumps lately, as in going bad even new. I doubt it's heat related if you have no fuel to start it anyway. If it runs for while before quiting, yes.
Did you replace line all the way from tank to carb? If not, look for a hidden clogged fuel filter.

All new lines including steel. Straight wired pump from battery and put fuel line at crab over a bucket. Pump runs (loudly) and fuel starts and stops intermittently. Also ran air back through lines and all is clear. I guess pump may be bad since it isn't vapor locked as there is no heat from engine. All line are clear and there is adequate electrical current. Any other ideas???
