Hi, over the past couple of weeks my truck has become very squeeky (only when turning). Seems like it came out of nowhere. My truck turns fine and drives fine, and if there was no squeek i would never guess anything is wrong. Any ideas?
Go ahead and grease all the zerts in the front steerring components.Jack up the front(one side at a time)and take a pry bar and raise the tire up to check play in the ball joints.May need to replace the drop down bushings to the sway bar and the sway bar bushings.Worn shocks can cause squeeks as well. The anti-squeek shims may be worn on the spring packs?
Yes, with it off the ground grab hold and try to move up and down/ side to side. Don't confuse any play up and down with worn ball joints or side to side with any worn front end parts. It may help you to have someone watch components to verify what has slop in it. You'll notice a worn unit bearings movement before you apply enough force to budge bad ball joints.
I replaced the pads between the leaf springs when mine was squeaking. Fixed my problem. Still, it could be a bearing going south, jack it up and see if there is any play in them. That's the best I can tell ya.
My recent experience with the ball joints was a popping sound, no squeak, but some do squeak. My other popping were the arms for the torsion bar. ? spelling and correct terminology for this.
After a monday like today, I think i will wait til tomorrow to jack it up and check it. Dont think I can handle any bad news tonight! I will check everything though and keep you guys posted. Thanks for all the advice and info.
