Intermittent A/C Problem

Intermittent A/C Problem
My dad's F-250 v-10 with 250,000 miles on it, has had the a/c compressor changed a few years ago. Now when you get in the truck and turn the dials to a/c, if you hear the compressor click you have a/c, if you don't then you get nothing, not even defrosters or panel. It is like the control ***** are dead. Then you start it sometimes after that and it will kick on like normal. I am thinking it is in the heater/cooler ***** panel, what do you guys think?

I'd disconnect the 2 wire harness at the compressor, and insert probes for a DC volt test. Keeping the volt meter under the truck and away from the moving parts, start the engine and turn on the A/C. If you have power that far, then the clutch coil is probably failing. If not check path for power ( relay, fuse, harness connections). It's possible that the switch is faulty, but you can't really tell yet without at least doing this much.
