Time for brakes

Its getting close to time for me to get new brake pads on my truck.

1: Should I do all 4 wheels?
2: I dont want to buy top of the line pads, just good ones. What are some good ones for the average person.
3: Should I get rotors? I have slight surging indicating warp-age, but not bad. How much are they and again any good average joe brands?

1. It is recemended to do all 4 wheels but if you cant swing it do the fronts first 70% of the braking force is from the front.

2. Ive had good luck with EBC pads on my Harley. I did some quick searching around and found the green stuff 7000 series is good for our trucks and it looks like they are only slightly more expensive then OEM pads.

3. For the rotors get a straight edge a mic and a service manual there is no point in replacing them if they are still in spec.

My Dad always used to tell me that the ridges in the rotors added surface area and there for increased stopping power.

I've always used Raybestos PG plus pads for the most part and have been pleased with there performance. fwiw

The EBC's i mentioned are organic ie no asbestos. If i remember most companies still use asbestos in the pad compound which is why you will get wrenches thrown at you if you blow out drums in a shop with compressed air. Raybestos is one of the oldest brake companies out there and makes good stuff. They make the rotors and pads for all the nascar series

I would only do all 4if they need it as Pili said 70% is done by the fronts unless you're fully loaded all the time it's usually not nessecary to do the rears but every 3 to 4 front pad replacements, you should have the rotors turned regardless of how they look, the new pads will not "seat" correctly for an extended time and will wear prematurely! As the old adage says " if a jobs worth doing! It's worth doing right!" that's my .02 hope it helps!!!

I just did mine ... went with Motorcraft Rotors & Wagner ThermoQuiet Pads. I did all four. I like the set-up and dusting has been minimal.

When replacing the rotors, be conservative with the anti-seeze at the hub flange ... I gooped too much and have had it running out of the freakin lug nut openings!

I go to Oreily auto parts when I do my brakes. I never do just pads either. I always change the rotors the same time I change the pads. Just doesn't pay in my opinion to just do the pads. Normally about 160 to 200 bucks to do 1/2 of the truck with rotors and brakes.
