I found c00nhunterjoe's homemade shift kit thread and now I am very interested. Question is, will the valve body from a '92 (or other such years) E4OD work with a '97 tranny?
Physically the valve bodies will interchange. Around 1995 Ford changed the connectors on the MLPS and solenoid pack. They also changed the solenoid pack electrically. The solenoid suppression diodes were moved to the PCM. These diodes protect the driver circuit in the PCM.
If you try using an older solenoid pack with your 1997, then you have 2 sets of protection diodes. Not sure what the effect will be.

Hmmm. The one I'm looking at now is from a '94... I'm curious as to what the effect would be, as long as it doesn't lead to damage.
