Ok, I'm a carb tuning newb. I finally got the 4100 cleaned up and rebuilt. It wouldnt idle and i had to tear it apart again and found the clog. Anyway, got it mounted up today and fired up. It will idle but its around 1100ish. The problem is the idle speed screw isn't touching the throttle shaft stopper. So does that mean the secondary's are open to far? I'm around i beleive 2 turns out on the idle mixture screws but i'm not exactly positive as i was playing with it to see if it made any big changes. I didn't have time to put the vacuum gauge on it today(will tomorrow) so i will reset the mixtures to 1.5 out and play with it. I have just never had the problem of not having any adjustment to back down the idle more before.
Any help on baseline settings i would also appreciate As i don't know what the wet fuel hight should be? along with the mixture screws.

I did some playing with it a few days ago. Closed the secondaries as far as i could (the bump stop isn't touching the linkage) and i still can't get it to idle lower than 1100-1200 even with the idle speed screw backed all the way out to where its not touching the shaft. I think maybe the throttle shaft is worn?
the 4100 has vacuum secondaries- shouldn't the secondaries be completely closed at idle?
I was meaning i have the secondaries closed to the point where they aren't touching the stopper adjuster anymore. Then with the engine running i back off the idle speed screw (primary) to where its no longer touching the throttle stop either and it still won't go less than around 1100-1200. My original thought was that maybe the secondary side was open and thats what i couldnt get it to drop low enough on idle. But it wasn't the cause
So my only other guess is the shafts are worn.
I do have another 4100 i guess i can try. I'll just have to swap parts over to it after i clean it and give it a shot. I have a BG race demon for on it but the rules at some tracks don't allow that style and I only have a 600 ebock, or the 4100. And if i have to pick i'll run the 4100 since It won't count as a modification.
worn shafts are a possibility, for sure. hit the shafts with a little wd-40 while the engine is running to see if the idle speed drops. might save you some time, as far as swapping parts around.
agreed on running the 4100 vs the Edelbrock. i've had both.

Ok i'll give it a try. But i thought that it would increase the idle speed not drop it when i sprayed it? Or will it seal up the play in the shafts?
I think it is. The butterfly for the choke is removed and i'm pretty sure the fast idle isn't engaged. I'll check to make sure. I have it off the engine now but i'll toss it back on when i get a chance and try all of what was suggested. If that doesnt work i'll swap over the parts to the other 4100 i have and see what it does. It will be a few days until i get a chance to do it most likely.
