I just got a new turn signal switch for my 1966 F250 4X4. I just went ot install it but I can't figure out how to get the horn button off. It has the original 4 spoke wheel.
4WD/1tons use a different wheel...the button as I recall has 4 tabs/prongs...you SHOULD be able to push down and rotate to release...DONT FORCE THE ISSUE IF IT WONT GO!!! Those horn buttons are a difficult find....
the 3 spoke wheel has a 3 prong button or horn ring...push n turn...the 4WD(except 66 F100) has a 4 spoke wheel...I havent seen a 4 spoke wheel or button in ages but the shop manual says to push and turn on all trucks for button or horn ring removal...
Hey 72RedNeck do you have just the center horn button or the one with a chrome ring on it I can check either one for you as I have them both let me know if you want some pics if so I will take and post them for you. Just went out and took a look at the steering wheel the center button only has a three tab assembly on the back of it to remove you push down and turn counter clockwise mine is made of steel so if yours is too it probably wont break but you may have alot of crap in the space between the button and the wheel itself it is a close fit. You may have to see if you can get a thin razor blade in and free it up along the sides of the button itself. Again a previous post mention plastic under the horn button but I see no evidence of that in my set up. I thought I had the innards under my horn button with the trim ring but see that I dont. Im going to say it should probably be the same as just the horn button. Either way it should be a push down and turn to get it off the steering wheel. Let us know how it turns out.
I just got it off. The PO (my other grandpa) had disassembled the horn cap and put it back together wrong. The metal cap broke apart from the plastic piece. A set of channel locks and a rag brought it off nicely.
Post pics if you can...this is a subject thats been brought up a few times over the years...

Not sure what pics you are asking for but here is what I have.
I have to say I stand corrected. Upon closer inspection the single round horn button does indeed mount to a plastic piece that appears to be part of the horn button. When I have a few minutes I will take the 3 screws out of the plastic to see how it is attached to the button. The custom chrome spoke horn button on the other hand has metal stand offs for the screws to go into that are part of the horn button. Im not sure that the assembley that I have posted that is behind the round standard button will work on the spoked horn button. When I attemp to remove the assembley from the standard button I will then see if it will mount on the custome horn ring and button. Hope this is what you were wanting in pictures. Ill start a new thread when I get the time to experiment with the horn mounting assembly.

Hope you dont mind my asking but where did you come with a new turn signal switch? And did they have some more? And one more question how in the world did your Grandfather get that to go on wrong. It looks like it will only go on there one way.
