(washed truck yesterday)???.......anyhow (and before i washed it) it had died a few times on me as i approached a stop sign (maybe three times and not like it was turned off, kinda just losing rpm's then dies). after the wash yesterday, and about 18 miles later it goes into limp mode 1/4 mile from last stop sign then dies at stop sign. turn off and restart and drive the extra mile home with no ses light on. go and pull codes and it passes koer but either continous mem. test or koeo I got p1219 and p1271.........injectors were checked by rosewoods less then 150 mls ago and where all ok. I know what codes mean (sort of). anyhow it has been running good and ran fine this morning, any ideas?
I could be a lot of things. Bad fuel, stuck IPR, water in the IDM, loose chip, oil level low, oil additive added causing foaming, fuel filter needs changed, etc. Put some diesel clean in the tanks and run the hell out it.
Automatic or manual? Anytime I hear about an automatic dieing coming to a stop, it makes me think it's the torque converter, because I had a Dodge Dakota do that to me way back when. If it's a manual, disregard this. If it's an automatic, is it dieing like if you were in 1st coming to a stop without using the clutch?
Way back when?? For you, what's that, six months ago, LOL.
I realize that this thread is ancient and that I'm resurrecting it. I was looking through some old subscribed threads when I saw this. I didn't get a chance to see this post until now. I can't resist responding to it.
I drove that Dakota from about 2006-2008. So that would be what I meant by "way back when". I know that may sound like it was just a short period of time ago, but it's like ancient history to me. I loved that truck, but now it's got a bunch of problems with it. I think my father and I are going to get it back in good order this winter.
And since I resurrected this thread, if the original poster is reading this, I'd like to know how everything turned out.
I again apologize for bringing back this old thread.
Same story here. I just now found this thread and though it is quite old, here goes. My 7.3 turbo diesel was doing the same thing as yours and my suggestions were to change the 'camshaft position sensor'. It cost less than 20 bucks and cured the problem. This thing is located on the front of the engine above and slightly to the right of the crank pulley. Took me bout 30 minutes to change it (I'm clumsy). I do not know if there is a way to test the old one, but a sure tell is if your engine dies when you put on the brakes but will start immediately when your foot is off the brake, then this is your culprit. Happy hunting and good luck.
