Underhood light??

I cannot figure this underhood light out at all! I replaced the bulb ( 912) and it still doesn't work.I checked the bulb socket with a test light and it lights up the test light. But bot the bulb.Any ideas why it still will not work.Thanks.

You might try gently pulling out the wire contacts on the bulb just a tad, and or using a small pipe cleaner to clean up the contacts in the socket......

This may sound goofy, but I replaced the bulb and the holder. I ended up putting the holder in upside down, and the light would come on when I shut the hood, instead of coming on when I raised it.....

Don't they turn off automatically after so many minutes? Seems like mine did that but not sure.

The bulb socket also contains a mercury switch. The mercury flows back and forth to close or open the circuit as you raise and lower the hood. That is why whitesford's bulb would come on when closed and go out when open when it was put in backward.

You can see the light come on as you raise the hood and go out as you close it so it is not on a timer.

Yep, its a mercury switch. If the light is on and its a mercury switch it might have a timer somewhere in the system just like the dome. It can be a mercury switch and a timer at the same time.

If I leave my hood open, the light stays on as long as the hood is open.

+2 I slip the bulb out of mine if I'm going to have the hood open for a long period of time.

That's what mine does.

I pulled the connector near the firewall and only connect it if I want the light on, which is like never.
