Choke out as in shut off?? I think the filter would have to be really plugged up.
Last weekend I was towing up to the mountains and my truck seemed low on power and there was more black smoke than normal. Didn't think much of it and then the truck started chugging or bucking. Like it wasn't getting any fuel. Stopped at napa and picked up a fuel filter. Mine was nasty black. Changed them out and the truck ran like a champ. Lots more power and no more black smoke.
