I have dealt with 2 issues for years using the FTE site and wondered if others experience the same issues.
1. The loading time pulling up a thread or changing pages within a thread usually takes a minimum of 5 up to 10 seconds. I do not experience this on other sites. Do others have similar experience? Does becoming a supporter make a difference? I have decent speed cable service.
2. The width of the screens change from screen to screen from normal full screen to having to use the left/ right arrows to get from the left side of the screen to the right side. This can be as bad as the equivalent of 3 pages equivalent width. Photos sometimes do the same thing. Again, I do not experience this other than on FTE.
Note that I am really just a computer user coming from a generation before Atari!
I too have noticed the FTE is slower to load than most of the other sites I visit, I just figured it was because of the high number of visitors daily. On the screen size issue, I have seen this when folks load pics that are larger I'll have to scroll side to side to see the entire page. I don't know if these are issues or not, probably the way it'll always be
I have the same problems. Seem to be faster in the early mornings. Maybe less traffic. The longest wait to load is the advertisements. Especially the one on the top and side. Another Ford man waiting on a Dodge Ram ad. I won't print what I think of Dodge pickups. chuck
I just always figured the slow loading was due to my POS computer (probably a bunch of GM and Chrysler parts thrown together.. like a 70's AMC...lol)
but since others are experiencing the same issue, it is probably the server and/or the traffic..
AND DON'T GET ME STARTED ON THE GIGANTIC PICTURES!!!!!!! I have a 17" monitor, why do people post pics that are 34"x50" ?????? RESIZE YOUR PICTURES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! even my tech-tarded azz can figure out how to re-size.
It sounds like the slowness of the site is common, supporter or not. No one mentioned the text sometimes requiring the left/right arrows to read the text, only on pictures. Am I the only one that experiences this in the text? Note that it does not happen in all cases.
As some of you may recall, I've posted my problems with this site before. I've got three different computers and this site has a variety of problems from time to time no matter which computer. It never seems to go completely away. Whatever is giving me grief today will become something else in a couple days. I guess as long as people flock to the site, nothing will ever improve. Since I'm not a paying member, I guess I shouldn't complain.
I'm not sure the width problem is big pictures. I recently "upgraded" to Win7, and started having screens that were maybe an inch too wide. It turned out to be an incompatibility of my puter's video card with Win7. Try setting your screen resolution to a larger pixel count (right click on the Desktop, Properties, Display in Win XP)
I have all the issues with this site as listed above. I go to other sites owned by IB and do not have these problems. Aggravating at times but I keep coming back. Still the best truck forum on the net.
Supporter status will help with download times. Those ads really make a diff. I too have some problems, have to click a second time and page will go on and change. Was having problems loading pic's till I went in and deleted a lot of the "attachments" I have put on over the years. It's self cleaning, but it did make a difference. Site is a busy one.

Are you using Internet Explorer 9? As soon as I changed to 9 I started having the "click twice, but not double-click" thing going on. REAL irritating!!! I'm investigating it on Microsoft support pages, no solution yet.
If you use Chrome as a browser, you can use AdBlock software that will block 90% of all ads. Really speeds stuff up. IE has some similar programs available but I haven't tried them yet.
I too have the same problem - It is due to the way they program their ad info when doing the hmtl stuff - This has been a recurring problem since the change in ownership - I battled them over this a few years ago and almost got kicked off before one of the checked and found out I was right.
I'm using IE8 - Down in the bottom right of the IE screen just to the left of the screen size box is a box for Inprivat Filtering - Click the box and choose automatically block - click the box again and choose settings - When that screen comes up in the lower left of the box that comes up is a "number of Sites" click it to read 30 - on the lower right of the same screen click refresh - This should produce a list of ad providers that will be blocked to some extent.
If trying to load FTE and it stalls or screws up the screen size click the original box go to settings and hit refresh - That will get the latest ad that is causing the problem and allow this to run somewhat smoother.

New computer a couple months ago. Windows 7 and IE9. Can't really remember when it started, but this is the only forum I have trouble with. Can't use Chrome, not compatible with my banking. Not worth the trouble for me to use different browsers.
