A/C and Heater problems

May A/C intermittently switches from vent to defrost. My heat does not work at all. Everything that I have checked so far is getting vacuum. Is it my controls???

Thanks in advance

Is your Ex a 4x4 ? if so...

If I'm understanding right, a/c blows ALL THE TIME, it just stops blowing from vent and starts blowing at windshield and back to vents again.

If so, i still think it a vacuum problem.

Heater by-pass valve

When mine did this I replaced the heater by pass valve under the hood on the passenger side. This valve prevents heat when the AC is on. When it does not work properly you get no heat. Mine would stick and occasionally release itself under acceleration. It is vacuum driven.

Yes I was thinking this could be part of the problem, the valve get vacuum when heat is off and when heat is on vacuum drops (I believe thats how it checked out).

Does anyone have a scematic on the vacuum setup for a 2000 V10 4x4 ?
