I just bought a new 2011 F-150 in April. Since I bought it, I have the following issue with the A/C. When I drive the truck with the vent fan blowing but the A/C off, the A/C compressor will still cycle on (blowing cold) and off. I would think it would only blow unconditioned air through the vents. The position of the Recirculation control doesn't make a difference. This seems to happen almost exclusively first thing in the morning for about 8 minutes. My dealership says this is normal operation but it seems weird to me. Any thoughts?
I'm just going to cast a vote in the "that's weird" pile... and in my opinion, not normal but I have a '10. Haven't seen anyone else mention such a problem but with the heat wave, there probably hasn't been a lot of running the air w/o the a/c...
It does not sound normal, but I would still call another service department for a second opinion.
There is a chance that the A/C compressor cycles on and off on the first cold start-up of the day to put a load on the engine in attempt to get the engine to operating temps faster. Same thing happens on most of these trucks that still have engine driven fans...like my 06. The fan clutch will engage, presenting a load, then disengage a few minutes after cold starts. Just a thought...maybe someone else can piggyback this.
