Thinking about doing head studs

this is my first post in this section of the forum. i have been mostly in the 96 f250 section. I have been doing alot of reading in this section though. i have a 2006 6.0 250 and love it. i read the post from the other day of the guy with the vans saying they are junk and you always hear horror stories from people but i have never once had a problem with mine. i just hit 75,000 miles and i know thats not to much but my truck has never been in the shop once, for anything. I have had it for 3 years now. the only mods i have on it are bully dog cold air intake and banks exhaust but just made it a strait pipe. I have been reading alot about making my truck as reliable as posible and about the whole egr and oil cooler but it has only been a few days of research for me and it kinda seems like a lot of info and a little over welming. i dont know to much about deisels i have worked on plenty of gas engines. but any way like the title says i have been thinking about doing head studs but i want a profesional job and i was wondering if any body knows of a place in southern new york where i can have this job done right? i plan on having this truck a long time and wat to take care of it

Congrats on having a good one too !!!!

While preventive maintenance is a good thing, head studs is not on my list of must haves....

My advice? don't fix what ain't broke ! You could introduce issues by changing something....

Do the maintenance, get a scangauge and wait until it tells you there is a problem...

My 05 has 139K on it and just did a flight from dfw to Destin and back without issues.

I am from CT, and have done 2 sets of head studs myself...if you would like a hand let me know....

My thoughts are...if you have the extra time and cash then yeah go for it.

I would leave the STOCK egr system just go bullet proof.

I would do the arp studs with new gaskets and have the heads checked while they are off.

I think knowing that there are head studs it just gives you a piece of mind, and lets say if you want to tune it, you know they are already in there, one less thing to worry about....

But hell, if you been into gas motors(top ends) this should be fine for you to do.

Pretty much straight forward.

EGR delete/bypass is a placebo mod. That'll tick a few people off, but it is a placebo mod.

I take a lot of flack for my stance on this as the EGR system is the most hated part of the truck.

You can actually still have to go digging around there even with a bypass/delete. There have been some issues with the kits that are out there(even some of the more well known companies, but for sure with the Billy Bob kits). That doesn't even get into the fact that you can still have a problem with the oil cooler with the EGR system not operational.
