Sunday, I had a need to merge onto a Interstate quickly. As I was watching the "Big Rigs" converging into my space quickly, I did not want to impede their forward motion, so I punched the accelerator. Before I even realized it I was at 100mph, and the truck was still climbing. I looked over at my wife and she was not even aware of the speed I was going. Normally this would have extracted a "Slow Down!" we have our Grand Kids with us.
The truck was so smooth in its response I realized that this could easily become an expensive habit.
Question? Does anyone no what the top out speed of the 6.7 is?
Mine is definitely limited to 95mph. I tested this between Manila, UT and Green River, Wyoming a few weeks ago. A few seconds after I realized 95 was it, I started to slow down. A couple of minutes after that I was on the side of the road meeting the Sheriff of Sweetwater County. He clocked me at 90 in a 65. Believe it or not, after some talking by my truck, then some talking in his suburban, he let me off with a warning....
Did not know about the limit of 95 but mine clearly indicated 100 when I let off. It felt like it was still accelerating but I could be wrong as I was so surprised to be where I was so smoothly and quickly I let off instantly so as to not run over anybody, as I was not the only one on the road.
As for verifying, I will wait until I have the right hwy conditions, that is no one around for 5mi.

Yeah, I got to 95 with ease and it had plenty over power and RPM's to get well above that, however it limited me to 95. Conditions were excellent for me, as the road I was on was perfectly flat, smooth as can be and not a car around for miles (other than the Sheriff that passed me going the other way ). My father in law was in the truck with me and he couldn't believe we were doing 90-95....stating it felt like we were doing 65-70.
I've only been to 90 MPH on I-65 (keeping up with traffic that evening) which I guess is only 87 MPH since the speedometer lies.
Also, have any of you tested the power of 6th gear prior to the torque converter taking over (I'm guessing that's what is happening; some call it a half shift)?
I only recently discovered this and I only get it to work in manual mode starting out in 2nd gear and applying constant but slightly more acceleration per shift.
You'll run 20-21 PSI boost in 6th with around 2,000 RPMs.
As soon as you coast, the converter will take over and if you floor it it takes awhile to build speed again if you're at the 60 MPH range.
It's a lot of fun once you figure it out.
The RPMs will stay the same for each shift if you're doing it right.
If the RPMs drop after a shift, your out of luck and you'll have to stop and try again.
I had to merge into a bunch of traffic this morning and decided to sprint past the pack - this thing has power that scares me sometimes! I really didn't mean to go that fast that quickly - and uphill to boot. Did not look at the speedometer, didn't want to know. But I sure got clear of everyone!
Quick! Stop saying these things! The NHTSA will put a limit on the horsepower of the trucks and they will have to be detuned! Talk in code from now on so they don't understand. They are the reason for the latest massive recall on the F150 steering wheel airbag problem. Only a few were affected and they are making almost all 2004-2006 F150s to be recalled all because of Toyota... ruining it for the rest of us, Toyota is
