I have a couple of questions for anyone here on the forums with weatherstrip installation experience. I installed new weather strip on the cab for both doors. After the install, my doors are really hard to close. It takes a good amount of pressure to close the doors. Is this normal? I intalled the weatherstrip starting at the top of the cab and worked my way to the bottom. The bottom part was glued to the floor with the aluminum plate on top of the lip. Not sure if I made a mistake somewhere. Any advise is truly appreciated. My truck is a 79 f 150. Thanks
I'd bet it's just the new weatherstrip. You have to remember that what was on it has probably been squished thousands of times over the years. I bet when it was new, it felt more like yours does now. I'd be willing to bet after a week or so in the sun with the doors closed, it'll be a lot better.
Yeah I hear you Brian, thanks for the quick reply. I hope it works out. It just seems that i have to almost slam the doors for them to close correctly. If I close them softly I can see a slight gap between the door and cab. When more pressure is applied it closes flush with the cab. Thats why I mentioned the striker plate
Thats how those doors closed when new so just leave the striker plates alone. They should seal real nice now!! Just have to put some effort into closing them.
