My brother has a 86 F.250 which he has had repainted. When it was repainted the painter painted right over the little sticker by the door striker which has the vin. Anyways though we will need a new one for inspection so I was wondering if anyone knows of where to get a reproduction tag from. Thanks for any info.
At a minimum you're going to need a clear and accurate picture of the label for another one to be made. You might try scraping the paint off with steel wool and turpentine or some such.
You can get also the VIN from the lower edge of the windshield (the VIN plate will be offset if a 1987+ replacement windshield has been installed):
