Nelson's Auction
Guess just hit me, I'm not a farm kid anymore. The 81 GM tandem New Holland TR70 combine and CCIL swather is my dads. Selling off the field equipment, Markowski's have all farmed the same land since 1904 guess I ended that.
It really just hit me as I typed that in for the first time just now closest I've come to shedding a tear since, well since awhile to say the least

get in there and buy it up man. Quit the trucking and keep the family tradition alive!! Just kidding. Another page of history turns. I think it gets tougher and tougher for the smaller farmer to make ends meet.
As for shedding a tear? I do that every time I leave NL after a holiday. Going back for good pretty soon... can't hack leaving it again.

My brother in law is still small farming. He just gave up trucking and is now mostly doing the farming. Except the odd occasional work for some company up in Nipawin.
He is 58 and spent way too many years driving truck. He's had enough. I don't know how he and his brother can afford it. I know they have lots of loans out from the banks.

They have no regrets - still own lots of land, just releived from the stresses of running it!
Although it is emotional to quit, its for the better - the $$$ dont add up unless you are '***** out' borrowing money and rolling the dice or small enough to do as a sideline! The former can go 'BOOM' in a hurry and the latter is a killer in terms of robbing your quality of life...
Tell your Dad to enjoy retirement...
