ok so i was on my way back from bloomington the other day when i was about to pull out onto the highway. i looked at my tranny temp gauge and it showed about 180 (the highest ive ever seen my tranny). i was in alot of stop and go traffic moving pretty slow. i got onto the highway and it eventually dropped to 160 and then back to the usual "high" i see at 150. When i got home ( a good hours drive running 65 the whole way) i pulled in front of the garage and left it running. i got out and smelt something familiar. i looked under the truck to find tranny fluid pouring out of the little drain cover for the converter. i shut the truck off and it quickly slowed to a drip. later i checked fluid level and it didnt show loosing alot of fluid. the next day i went for a ride and never saw the temp get above 160 but when i got home again there was a small leak. i added some lucas trans fluid and drove it around today never seeing it hit 150 and not a single drip from the tranny. The first day it leaked we were seeing heat indexes in the 105-115 so i didnt think much of the tranny reaching the highest ive ever seen it. but this still concerns me. any ideas to what im looking at? are these normal temps for an auto tranny? btw im running 37"s and banks shift module. All mods to truck are intake exhaust and stage 1s with no chip. Thanks for any input guys
yea your front seal is going bad a normal operating e4od likes its temp around 160 degrees. i have been hitting 200 degrees lately due to the heat as well the temps are within normal operating range
