block heater

yesterday i was looking for the cord on my 06 and couldnt find it any where.i was told the o6's did not have one, that the heater itself was in the block, but you had to buy the cord from ford,i figure i will need one before winter unless this one starts better in the cold then my 00 7.3 did,if the temp dropped to 40 degrees it had to be plugged up.is there any truth to this?

I'm sure many others will chime in with their personal experience, but the 6.0 I believe will start down into the negative degrees. You just need to follow ur glow plug cycles. Yes a block heater helps. If you want a cord, search eBay. I boughtthe $20 one off eBay 2 years ago and it works perfect. Run the wore from the front passenger tow hook along the frame to just behind/above the passenger exhaust manifold, I can't remember exacty which, and it threads on the existing male plug in the block. Very simple. 5 minutes of ur time.

Yes. came as an option.

The block heater is just above the starter. Start your search from there. If it isn't there, you can pick one up off of E-bay. My 04 had one, so I am not familiar with those on e-bay.

If your old 7.3 wouldn't start below 40, your glow plugs weren't working. I don't plug in unless the temp gets down to the single digits. Even then I don't need it, but it helps get heat out of the ducts a little faster.

You might be able to get the cord from International. Usually the parts on that side of the fence are cheaper.

Also, some have purchased a "timer" and set a start time. These pull about 1000W, so save some cash and put it on a timer.

Can buy timers at places like Lowes, Home Depot and Wal+Mart.

Make sure you use a heavy duty timer rated for over 1000w.
