It is attached to the back of the fusde block under the dash. There are 2 big wiring harnesses that plug into the back of the GEM. Those require a 10mm socket to remove the bolt holding them to the GEM. Then it is screwed on the back of the fuse panel with 3 T-20 torx screws. Then disconnect the fuse panel...turn it around and pull the GEM off. You might want to take out the relays before trying this it makes it a little easier.

I am getting a strange sound from what I think is the GEM modual. The power windows & dome light does not work. It makes a 'air hissing' type sound thats rather loud and it seems to 'interfere' with the warning 'buzzer' when you have the headlights on, key off and the door open.

This all started with what I thought was a bad starter solenoid. Replaced with a new one - same problem I was able to jump accross the solenoid to get the truck to start. Now the starter just clicks and a bunch of these other 'electrical gremelins' happen. If you press the door lock/unlock the wipers come on along with the dome light (door open).

Could I have fried something by jumping the starter solenoid or is this just a seperate issue.

Any suggestions will be appreciated and I WILL post what my solution/problem was once I get it sorted. Thanks!

Low battery voltage will cause weird issues. I would get your batteries load tested. Usually gem module failures are caused by leaking windshields. Your fuse panel getting wet can cause odd problems as well.

I think it's getting low - i'll throw a charger on it overnight. I don't think I have any leaks - nothings wet or damp. Thanks for the reply - if you have any other suggestions let me know!

Make sure you battery cables are nice and clean. Also make sure the connections are tight. I would really recommend getting you batteries load tested individually. You might have a bad battery.

Biggest sign of a GEM acting up I've seen in a few different trucks was the interior lights & the rear bed light (up high above rear window) persistently staying on, had one go on an Expedition and one on a superduty....The Expy was an obvious "leaker" (sunroof), the SD didnt "see" any leakage signs, that truck had around 180K when it happened.
