How long should a serpentine belt tensioner last because mine just died and it's right at about 1 year old. I know because I just pulled the belt and checked the pulleys and the pulley with the ribs was wobbling and making one heck of a noise when the truck was running so I swapped it out with my old used one that I put on the shelf "Just in case" (God himself knows I love having spare parts around, man is it handy!) and the noise is gone but man does the old tensioner have a nasty wobble.
I've read in several different publications, that they recommend changing the idler pulley with every belt change. I have 152,000 on and I'm due for a replacement. It's hanging just a little but any resistance is just that. These makes number three I think. But it's like anything else maybe you got a bad one.

Just curious- Was this oem part or after market? Mines still the original with 90k on it.
My 1990 F250 (gas, 460) had plastic idler pulleys that were inexpensive, and typically worn out about the time you'd swap the belt. That may be where the 'change it ever time' thinking comes from.
