I start my truck the same way you did yur with the jumper ..... But its located in the cab.... So I turn the key on push the button start the truck. Turn key off to stop I did that when I first got it .... Been doing that for 2 years now with no issues..... Also it could be the ignition swicth on the steering colum that's bad..... But the push button start is a no fail solution....

thank you so much... this would have taken me days instead of hours... truck works now. previous owner had a push button switch under the dash. not sure what it was for but it starts the truck now.
