look on top of your GP controller looks like the wire might head that way according to the picture if you find it then use your meter and disconnect that wire on top of the gp relay and ohm it out if continuity is present then its the right wire and looks like yur gp relay is bad

so i cut back the electrical tape and followed each wire coming out of that fuseable link. i disconnected each one one at a time and couldn't isolate it. just burning through most of the fuseable link. then i realized one wire i missed was going to the alternator. i touched it and it is very hot. i'm going to look for a short somewhere over there.
could it be the alternator is bad? there are a few connections on it.
what goes where?
progress.
I disconnected the 2 wires going to the alternator. the main power wire and the small plastic connector. the plastic connector only had one wire but there was space for another along with a spade in the alternator but no wire for it.
everything worked. blower turned on. headlights. glow plug light and relay cycled.
try unpluging the harness out of the altenator and try connecting the wire again if it dosent arc then yes your altenator is bad so i would replace it soiunds like your on the right track
take your altenator off and have it bech tested if it arcs at the parts store then hell yeah it bad but a nerw one when you should be good to go......... how long have you owned the truck? any problems prior to all of this?
i've only had the truck for a year. got it for $1000 and the only problems i have had are the little pot metal piece that push down the steering column when you turn the key broke and i burnt up a wire by accident a few months ago because there are a bunch of disconnected wires on the passenger side under the hood and i grounded one that was live.
so i disconnected the alternator and tried to start the truck but i won't crank. unrelated new problem or still part of the old?
i waited for the glow plug light to go off and turned the key with the clutch and brake pressed and nothing. just the high temp light comes on.
the truck should start without the alternator. right?
yeah it should unless its jack and needs it to complete a circut ........ leave the key on and cross the 2 terminals the the starter relay on the fender with a screw driver big terminal to small stud and the starter should crank ..........
id be also checking more of the those in line fuses on your starter relay..... on the big bottom terminal to the small left terminal with single wire touch them with a screw driver it should crank
