I haven't heard that name for it, but it's attached to the back of the instrument cluster. Ford & Haynes call it the "Inferred Mileage & Extended Useful Life Sensor Module".

It's just a small add-on PC board, but pfogle, you don't have one. I think it just turns on a service engine light after a certain amount of time, miles, or key cycles, but I'm not sure.

I;ve got some kind of a pc-board that plugs into the side of the cluster. is it just the voltage regulator? it does have an IC on it, or is it the part of the PSOM?

I think the Extended Useful Life sensor and the Infrared Mileage sensor are two separate things. The EUL sensor is to turn on the "emissions" light approximately every 60000 miles (actually so many hours of "on" time). The IM sensor I recall reading somewhere is supposed to change the calibration of the computer to compensate for wear on components after miles are put on.

I've heard of this thing too, but I've heard it's just on later carburated models and not on EFI trucks. We had a '86 F-250 at work and the emissions light came on, but show'd no errors in the computer.

The emissions light and module is separate from the EEC and was on many mid-80's trucks, carbed and EFI.

The Haynes manual shows it on '87-89 for 5.8L only. For '84-86 there is one shown, but no engine specified. For '81-83 it says 5.0L CA only.

Only the '84-86 has an indicator light - the others just communicate with the EEC.

My '87 has the module on it that turns on the EMISS light in the dash. The module is under the dash, above the gas pedal, and has a small hole in the side that you stick a screwdriver in to reset the module.
