My truck has had a loud noise ever since I owned it.It is a loud growling sound from the trans area thought it was the flexplate so I changed it out today it was cracked so I thought I had the cat by the tail right? well wrong put everything back together and still have the noise.could it be the tc????? It just does it idling around 1200 rpms it stops trans seems to shift fine and no slippage. If it is tc what should I get?Wishing I would have just changed it when I had everything out today I know I am goin to need a tranny someday but am waiting till this one stops for good. Will a 6.0 converter work if so is it the same? THANKS
I guess it is more of a rattling sound. It just drives me NUTS every time I pull up to a crowd of people they think it is about ready to blow up LOL Just want to get it fixed.
The rattling sound has been described as sounding like marbles in a coffee can. I heard a truck once a long time ago and didn't know what that noise was until I saw a thread talking about it. It's definitely not a growl.
Both of my 99's had a noisy TC's. It gets real annoying and embarrassing after a while, although they still perform just fine.
You can just change out the TC with a new one.
I changed my first one along with the flexplate just to be safe.
I know what you mean Franko the embarrassing is what bothers me the most What did you put in when you switched them out?? I am not sure what to go with I know when my tranny goes I will need another one

I just stuck another stock TC in there. I wasn't sure of the trans condition, and didn't want to ruin an expensive TC if there was crap floating around inside my trans.
It was nice to actually hear the engine for once. My TC was loud......
IIRC I paid somewhere around $260 for a stock replacment TC at a stealership.
OK Thanks for all your advice I think that is the route I am goin to take also I will be sooooo happy to get rid of that LOUD rattle sound. I have owned a PSD since they came out this is my favorite out of all them so I kept it none of my others have ever been this loud.Hope I can get this one to quiet down!
