Shift knob removal

Shift **** removal
Hello everyone, does anyone know how to remove the shift **** on a 2000 Expedition, its the one with the tow/haul button on it. Problem is that there is a slight crack on the plastic.

I know the end pops off because you can replace the button switch in the end. I've never removed the whole plastic assembly so I'm not sure if it's possible, or if you have to replace the entire arm. I'd first pop the end off, remove the switch, and then look inside to see if there is a retainer of sorts.
