Okay just got back from Park Moaje at the river. It towed great. Never got hot going but started to climb a little on the way back twice. I just backed off a little and it droped right back down. I have more then enough power now just have to watch temp. Air worked great but MPG sucked. I have know tuner and need gears soon. My 35's tires, and 16K trialer are what started my problems. The ARP's, bullet proof EGR upgrade and oil bypass with new ELC seem to keep everything in check. I hope and wish that all my problems are now solved. Highest rpm climbing was 3400 for a very short time and around 2600 to 2800 cursing most of the time. 60 top 65 down the highway is know problem if you want. I try to keep this much weight between 55 to 60. Lowest climbing to keep temps down was 46mph for a short time. Most of the time 50 to 55 on long climbs. My truck is 6 inch lift with 35 tires as stated. Just thought I would check back in with the resolves of the trip. This trailer is tall to so I figurer only about 7.5mpg average not real good. If I could fix this I would be very happy. God bless, Chet

What were you doing (speed, hill or flat, gear, locked)when the truck was at 2,600 and 2,800 rpms?

I don't see how it is possible to tow 13-16k in the west coast states at anything other than 2600-2800 rpm or more. I can only be below that on relatively flat ground. In the mountains 2600-2800 is where my truck runs best while towing 14k. On flat highway I can cruise below 2000.

Gearing helps give you more grunt down low. 4.30 gears helps out a lot at lower speeds, it becomes a pain though if you try to go too fast.

I just pulled 16,000 lbs from Alaska to Georgia. Plenty of hills. Stayed in high gear during flat and semi flat terrain, pulled mostr of the hills in 4th. On the harder pulls it would shift to 3rd and scream a little. And I did have to back out of it as the EGTs approached 1300'.

Got 10 mpg overall.

My A/C wouldn't keep the truck real cool in the mid west states. But it was over 100'.

Now I am getting ready to drive back without the trailer.

Mnmwhit, I would like to get 10mpg. I only averaged about 7mpg. Before I did all the work to mine my ac went south, after all the mods it works great. It was 111 degrees when we started home from the river. My truck is raised and I have on yet gouted my cat or changed the exhaust. This is one of my next mods with gears. Did you use the tuner to tow or keep it in stock tune. I don't have a tuner. Chet

I used the Stock tune through Canada because the tuner still makes me a little nervous, I'm worried about breaking something. It does pull the load alot better in the towing tune (I chose the 50+ towing tune).

My truck is not lifted and I use load range "E" TOYO H/T tires. Yjey are very hard tires. I think that is why you are getting bad MPG numbers. I wonder if your big tires are rated to carry that big load? I dont know much about lift kits and big tires. It just doesn't seam to me that that would be a good set up for pulling trailers.

I am not an expert but it would seam to me that raising your center of gravity and then pulling a high profile trailer on the highway and then encountering a strong cross wing could be a receipe for trouble. I know we had some cross winds in Canada that made me uncomfortable.

Mnmwhit, I try not to tow in high winds. Numbers of tires seem to be able to handle the weight. I upgraded my EGR but am now wondering if I should of just did the delete. The smog checks here in California is what I was afraid of. Thanks for the info. Chet

Max torque is at 2k rpms, 570 if a 05-07, 560 if a 03-04. My truck runs at 2k rpms doing 75mph, i can tow 10000 pounds at this speed and my egts are at 900 to 950. ive never seen my truck go above 1100 dgrees, and that was when i floored it with 10k behind it

Take a trip from S. Calif to N. Calif up I-5 --- you WILL see your EGT's go higher than 950!!!

Heck, just drive from Florida to Nashville!
