5.8L Distributor
I'm swapping out my 5.0 for a 5.8 and was wondering if the distributors are interchangeable or not. The one on my 5.0 has a different connector then the donor 5.8 that I bought. I know the firing order is different, no big deal I can switch the plug wires around. Also what about timing the manual I have is kind of confusing. Finding top dead center for the number one cylinder isn't tough, but what about installing the distributor. Is it simple and the book is making out to be a complex job. I'm swapping a 5.0 out of a 1992 F-150 to a 5.8 out of a 1991 Bronco.

The 351w has a taller deck height than the 5.0 so the distributors will not interchange (plus the 5.8 has a larger diameter shaft). After you find tdc, point the rotor button to # 1 on the distributor cap and install the distributor. It will vary a little bit either way as you must mesh the teeth on the distributor to the cam gear. If your close to tdc the engine will "start" then you can set your initial timing with a light after you start the engine. Don't forget to disconncet the spout connector when setting initial timing.
