LOL thank you Tim and Chandler for keeping me in check...good call on the 35's, absolutely agree, there is more surface area/weight involved. For my own reference, what's the switch to 4.10 worth? Maybe 1-1.5 mpg? I looked at a raptor (who doesn't?!?) before purchasing my current truck, my wife was concerned about longevity when pulling our horse trailer (I agree once looking at specs! Not build for that), and two hoofed money eating machines....plus the Platinum is like a living room on wheels, awesome for long trips. Next move will be an f350, but man does this 6.2 pull.

Good luck Storm, and thank you for your service!
Not sure how it would compute to real world economy, but based off a quick chart online:
<TABLE id=table7 border=0 cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width=329><TBODY><TR><TD bgColor=#ffffcc align=middle></TD><TD bgColor=#ffffcc align=middle>MPH x Gear Ratio x 336</TD></TR><TR><TD bgColor=#ffffcc align=middle>RPM =</TD><TD bgColor=#ffffcc align=middle>―――――――――――――</TD></TR><TR><TD bgColor=#ffffcc width=73 align=middle></TD><TD bgColor=#ffffcc align=middle>Tire Size</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
a 3.73 gear will turn about 250 less RPM than the 4.10 @ 70mph. So that little bit (maybe 0.5-1 mpg at highway speed) plus the weight and cross section of the tire probably add up to 1.5-2 mpg compared to your Platinum.
A Friend of mine has a 2010 Raptor 5.4 and has had no issues with his frame bending an he does things with his truck that I wouldn't do on an ATV or in a Polaris Ranger.
Its the same frame on a Raptor as an FX4 so if its gonna bend, Its gonna bend on either truck.
The 6.2 in my Platinum gets 14 in town, and 16 on the highway. It's not as bad as everyone makes it sound...just keep your foot out of the firewall, or it's Ramen for supper.
The 6.2L in my Lariat gets 14 in the city and that's full blown hard acceleration all the time...because it's near impossible not to drive it hard. But yeah, the fuel mileage with the 6.2 is actually quite impressive considering the power and engine displacement.
Good point, but the Raptor is running 4.10 gears and 34.5x12.5" meat. The taller gear set and the heavier tire will decrease economy.
Regardless...it's a bad *** truck. I just hope that if it's bought that it will be used for its intended purposes, and not just another pavement pounder.
EDIT: ^^^^ there goes Tim steppin' on my toes again!!!!
I vote for the FX4. It is a bit more universal, towing, off-roading, commuting where the raptor, the beast that it is, seems like an off-roader *period*.
But, if you have the money, just buy both... ;-) Or sell the Ducati and start a truck collection instead. Hehe.
Although, you'd probably get more girls with the Raptor. lol. If you are single, that's good, if you are married, that's probably not so good.
Oh and yahoo for being a vet. I'm a disabled vet, too. Glad I got to serve under W... might have to go awol if I had to serve under this yahoo. Ha! My hubs is still AD and I feel for him but we are over the halfway point to retirement so I don't want to give up just yet! His pension will keep me in the nicest trucks. LOL!
Storm I am the same way, impulsive! I have a thread on here where I received a lot of advice.
I'm not going to give advice either way. But I will say that if we have anything in common you won't stop at the raptor. Might as well just build your 350 now and skip the raptor lol.
