Hello all,
My '94 F150 with the EFI 4.9 has always run like a champ. Recently, I started it up, and it drove about 1/4 mile and just died. I havn't been able to get it started again. I put in a new cap, rotor, and fuel filter. It's getting spark, and it's got plenty of fuel pressure at the rail. If you spray ether into the intake, it will sputter, and run breifly on what seems to be 1 or 2 cylinders. What on earth is going on? I even replaced the electronic ignition module on the driver's side wheelwell, to no avail. Any ideas?
Thanks!
That's actually why I'm starting to suspect that the ECM itself is shot. Does that ever happen? Where the whole thing just fries with no warning? The fuses are all good, I already checked those.

Well, yes the ECM's do sometimes develop problems.
I'm far from an expert on the EFI system. I wonder if there are "stored" codes (codes that remain until cleared) and "temporary" codes (codes that go away when the key is turned off.
If you have good fuel pressure at the rail, and you have spark, it sounds like your injectors are not firing. Could be a bad ECM or a bad electrical connection in the injector wiring.
I doubt it is something like crud blocking the injectors because it would be unusual for it to happen all of a sudden on all 6 injectors, unless something really drastic happened.
I don't know if this will help. But under the dash there is a fuel safety shut off. It is like a little red button. Possibly it popped up and is shutting fuel off to the motor. You might check that and see. I know sometimes when a front end impact occurs that valve pops up and shuts off fuel. I would check and see.
