I missed it before. Why does this truck have regular non-dually type rims in the front? See how the front frame is a open "C" in the front? Someone more experienced needs to verify, but this truck may have started life as a 2wd dually pickup and the front axle was swapped in from a regular 4x4 f350 pickup.
kinda of wished it had solid axle but this was frankensteined before I got it. hope the axle ratios match but I believe this thing did run before I got it.
so went to drain the box today and it was full of water and gear oil yeah !!! for shts & giggles I ran a magnet into the drain and it wasn't giggles, it was sht. I found a a large flat washer in pieces and 2 dif roller bearing rollers. So it's back together and put on the back burner. If it blows it blows, with all that torque and HP I think something down the road will go
at least I got the trans/case fluid changed, the exhaust connected, the chassis harness run and found the fuel sending unit is trashed. Got the fuel pump plumbed to the the carb, (used the braided line from the 92) list of things needed: rad support (new one is from Jersey...rust), fuel sending unit, clutch pedal assembly, header for the grill (i broke the last one). Ready to paint the front end this weekend I hope.

I am almost positive that truck was originally 4wd, or atleast the frame... If you take a look at my F-250 4wd front end, it looks identical.
Then if you look at the rear spring hanger here, it still has the factory rivits...
I know the thing had at least 3 chassis change tags on the firewall, and it wasn't a dump and the dually thing, not sure, it's frame up build but unlike yours this isn't going to be a show vehicle by any means. A hauler and plower and look good with a little mud and off-road rescues.
Got some painting done, for 1st time painter I think it came up nice.
hood, fenders, minus some water spots, runs and chipmunk tracks they looks great it's black and it's a dumpbed
What type/brand of spray gun did you use? I have a $50 Harbor Freight gun that I have been using for primer. I won't be ready for paint till next year, and I am afraid that that gun won't give me a good quality paint job.
I have a Napa gun but I used a Sharp (?) and I learned a lot from my friend and it's all about prep and more prep and a place to store it to dry.
Being it's a work truck it's looks real good. Takes some practice using the 2 stage trigger and keeping the air flowing all the time. I used Napa Commercial paint which required reducer 4-1 and it laid down nice. Need more practice before taking on painting my car.
Picked up an 88 7.3 dually and I can't use any parts . the trans is motor specific, the dually rear has disks with some kind of valve ? and the e-brake is on the d-shaft, also the rims are 10 lug, this sucks, looks like the 88 is getting scapped so I can get my money back. My friend needed the wiring harness : (
The 88 you picked up is actually a F-Superduty, it later became the F-450. It should have a 10 lug dana 80 with possibly 4.88 or 5.13 gears and disk breaks. It should also have hydro boost brakes which work good. I installed that setup in my Wheeler.
The 88 should also be 2wd, but can be converted to 4wd very easily since it uses the same front leaf spring perches as a 4wd & the transmission is the same as a 4wd.
Is it just me, or is that truck kind of tough lookin' without the front end on it? All that beautiful motor showing. Looks kinda Mad-Max.
I've been watching this thread but not posting, and I've got to say, your really going through the old gal doing all of this work to get her back on the road. Really cool.
