I have a 1999 F-350 5.4l V-8 gas, crew cab, with 40 inch tires , that is used for pulling and offroading, there are so many chips out there, but is there any that actually work to increase my hp, or are they all BS
Far and away the best bet is Mike. These do not use replacable chips, but can be re-flashed.
There are not "huge" gains possible as the engine is pretty well tuned from factory. But Mike will work with you to get the max possible, and change transmission shift mapping to meet your needs.
Hopefully you've already got some seriously deep gears... like 5.13's... If not, THAT should be your next purchase. These engines need to rev to make power, and tires that big and heavy need a LOT of power to get turning.

I have to agree.
I had an Edge on my F150 and it was pretty good. When I got my Super Duty I got the X3 tuner from Mike at 5Star SOLELY based on the feedback that I got here. I got it about a month ago and have been incredibly happy with it. I haven't pulled a huge load with it yet, but the "performance" tune really woke the truck up.
And Mike is a GREAT guy to deal, total customer service. You basically can't go wrong with him.
I know how everyone loves 5-Star, but ask around your area to see if someone has a "master tuner" that can flash multiple vehicles, via web access. My local Ford dealer "just so happened" to know someone who had one, who "just so happened" to work for that dealership. He flashed mine for $150 bucks versus $500 give or take for an individual tuner, and my V-10 frickin' rocks now - I knew there were a lot more horses resting in the stable at the stock setting!

I can see trying to save some money, but if you want to change that tune to something different then you have to pay another $150. Is he gonna keep doing it for you when ever you want at no extra charge. I can change mine everyday if I wanted to, performance to tow to economy back to tow then to performance again. And I never have to pay for it again and can do it when I want it done not when someone else has the time. Mainly I paid for convenience. And they are worth the extra money you spend to have a tuner in hand that you know will work for sure.
