Hey Guys I am considering a rear end swap due to a leaking pinion bearing seal and some metal in the oil and wonder if any of you know of any compatibility info between a 2005 4wd 6.0 ltr., of the same gear ratio to an early 99 F250 2wd 7.3 ltr
also are there any other ways to get this info?
Thank You,
Jim
Some of the early Super Duty rear axles had one of the brake calipers on the forward side of the wheel. Not sure if this would be a problem though, from what I can see it should still bolt up fine. Are you wanting to put a 99 axle in a 05 truck or the other way around?
Thanks for the reply. I am trying to put the 2005 in my 99. and yes you are right about the left brake caliper but just need a new line setup is all for that.
Mainly interested in dimensions spring attachments things like that.

I have always thought the axles were the same length but not positive. I think 2005 was the first year for coil springs up front so the wheel offset changed and possibly the wheel stud bolt pattern and size as well. I think you are safer to find a 2004 or earlier axle for the swap. Seems like you will have a few issues to resolve if you try and stab a 2005 in your 99 truck. Maybe someone else will add some comments based on their own experience.
If I remember correctly the bolt pattern for the rims changed between the years on those axles. I don't think you will be saving much when you get the new rims, and you can kiss rotating your tires goodbye after that.
