DPP?

Wanted to change out the injectors for something with more horsepower on my 7.3 ltr. Someone suggested DPP but they say I need to upgrade the HPOP to get any more real performance. Anyone else used their parts in their 7.3 ltr and did you upgrade the HPOP to their stealth?

Start with gauges, then intake, exhaust and a tuner. You need a custom tuner like DP in case you ever get bigger injectors you can change the tune.

Gauges? My Ex has a larger exhaust pipe already. I would guess a 4" or so. And I have an Edge already. But you are saying custom. And I know that isn't custom. You are saying the gauges that go on the support column beside the front glass?

If you get bigger injectors, the edge will not know that. You could use the Edge for the gauges and get a custom chip to match your injectors.

When you say you wanna change injectors for more power - what are you looking for? and how much do you wanna spend?

The first thing you should do is be sure all of the stock systems are up to par. Make sure there are no oil leaks, boost leaks or up-pipe leaks. If you haven't yet, upgrade the CAC boots and get plenum inserts and spring clamps from Riffraff.

The stock air filter housing is prone to letting dirt in, especially if care is not taken to re-install the lid properly. An upgrade here is important if you wanna keep your truck a long time. Depending on the power level you are after, the Ford AIS (extreme duty) intake runs about $200 and is arguably one of the best filtering air filter you can get.

If ya plan to add more power, you need an EGT gauge and boost and trans gauges are recommended. If the Edge thingy you have does that, thats fine!

With stock injectors and good custom tuning (get a TS-style chip and use one of several great tuners out there) - you can expect about 100hp over stock and still have very little smoke and manageable EGT's. (anything over a 100hp tune is just dumping extra fuel, making more smoke and higher EGT's) This power level is alot of fun, fairly safe and not very expensive.

The next level is Stage 1 injectors. Again, with good tuning - you can expect more like 120-140hp over stock, but with a stock turbo you will have to watch EGT's and the drive pressures will ultimately shorten its lifespan.

If ya want even bigger injectors and more power, you'll need a turbo upgrade. Since the stock up-pipe design is prone to leaks and your's probably already do - you'll want to upgrade them at the same time. The OE looking upgrade for this is the Int'l bellowed up-pipes and a GTP 38R (ball bearing turbo). These are a direct drop-in upgrade and retain 100% stock features like the EBPV and WG. For just a little more $$, you can go to a custom T4 turbo mount and up-pipes and an S366 or comparable charger. There are a TON of turbo options for the T4 mount and many of them are very inexpensive. With Stage 2 injectors and a 38R or comparable charger you can expect to be above 400RWHP.

To go much beyond this power level requires some additional supporting mods like forged rods, head studs, HD valve springs and push rods.

Hope this helps.

You really need to talk with Clay from Riffraff Diesel. He is the forum sponsor for the Excursion forum and he can help you figure out which path to head down, depending on what you want to achieve.

I'd like to outrun most daily drivers, but keep mine as a daily driver. I was thinking 550+ HP. I am thinking longterm to change out tranny, HPOP, head studs, injectors, maybe detroit lockers, turbo, etc... I just need to know where to start. The edge is the one that is sitting on my dash and yes it shows all that stuff. It wouldn't have been my choice but I bought it with it there. I am thinking over the long haul 15-20k in aftermarket stuff. I just need to do it in stages and I'm not really sure where to start. I think the edge is a juice for some reason. Does that sound right? Before it's all over though, I think it may be nixxed.

If you looking at doing it in stages start with the boring stuff first like headstuds so you don't break something. Then move on to the power mods. If you want you can give us a call and we can get you where you want to be. What year is your Ex?
