Here we are, in the middle of nowhere (meaning Montana). Made it up with our 3-ton camping trailer with no problems whatsoever except a really nasty sickening sweet smell that will fill the cab when stopped after the truck is warm.
Kinda smells like pineapples or piña coladas... It's not the maple-syrup antifreeze smell, but it's certainly not gasoline or rich exhaust. Definitely coming from under the hood. Things that come to mind when I smell it are solvent, windshield washer fluid, and blue snowcone syrup. Don't know if that helps. It's quite strong, I could smell it almost ten feet away.
Last note, it only shows up when/after the truck is running. Let it sit and it disappears.
So. I don't imagine it'll be that big of a problem, but I would like to know what's going on before we make the long drive back to Utah.
And it is losing coolant somewhere at a very very slow rate...
Definitely not rotten eggs... It's really really sweet, kind of sugary, almost like melons too. And I remember smelling it after pulling it out of the garden to do the steering box adjustment prior to the trip. The truck had only been running for maybe 30 seconds. Doubt it's tranny fluid, I've smelled it before and after the flush.
I'm just skeptical because it doesnt smell like coolant... It's not oil, it's not tranny fluid... I really wish I could attach a smell to a post because it's not quite like anything I've ever smelled before. And I used to work in a shop.
But I will check the heater core just because that's a good idea.
