Anyway, I recently purchased a 1987 F250 and have a couple gremlins I am trying to find.
Gremlin 1:
Front fuel gauge not functional. Gauge works on rear tank. Mostly, where is the sending unit wire connection on the front tank?
Gremlin 2:
No dash lights. Fuse is good, tail lights work. Truck has had crappy aftermarket stereo installed crappily. Can someone give me a rundown of the correct wire colors and functions for the radio? Also, is there a ground that applies only to the dash lights?
Gremlin 3:
Dash blinker indicators not functioning. Outside blinkers function. Hazards function. Bulbs are good. Could this be related to the dash light issue?
I'm not sure exactly what would cause all those problems, but I would definitely start with finding the ground for the dash gauge cluster and work from there.
There should be another fuse for the instrument lights, they do run off the tail light fuse but they do have another fuse for them, if I remember it will be a 5 or 7 1/2 amp.
The connection for the front tank is on top of the tank.
There may also be a ground problem for the dash, on my 97 the grounds are behind the side kick panel..

If the tank shows empty all the time, could be the float has
a pin hole leak and is full of fuel.
If the tank shows full all the time the sender is probably bad.
Resistance of the sender. 160 ohms = Full, 15 ohms = Empty.
Below is the schematic of the tank selector switch showing the
sender and fuel pumps. This is the schematic for a 88 so the color
of the wiring may not be the same as your 87.

The illumination for the dash cluster, Ash tray, Heater AC controls,
Radio, Windshield washer control, dash turn signal indicator bulbs all
share the same ground G701 a Black wire located behind center of instrument cluster. I'm guessing it's mounted to a stud on the firewall.
If all of these items don't work including the Cigar lighter, G701 is
probably the problem. Instead of pulling the dash cluster, you might
try stripping some of the wire insulation back and ground the Black wire
at the Ash tray illumination bulb and see if the items start working.

Dash lights are fixed now, thanks all. White 97 XLT was right about a second fuse...goofy.
I had asked about the sending unit plug just to be sure there were no others. All the sending units I've found so far have 4 pins, while my plug only has 2 and seems to be narrower. Anyone shed some light here?
