Turn Signal Gremlin

I come to you with a question, seeking a solution in evicting a new electrical gremlin.

The problem is that my right front turn signal will not blink, nor will the dash indicator.. BUT it works at the rear.
When I activate the hazards they work on all 4 corners and at the dash.
Left side has no issues.
I do have a wiring diagram,(purchased the Ford OEM wiring diagram and I have been studying it and now my eyes are crossed)
steps taken are as follows
1) checked bulbs ...good
2) checked sockets...cleaned and good
3) checked grounds...cleaned and good
4) checked flashers ... good
5) traced wires ...I have hazards from lamp to steering column but when I activate the right turn signal NOTHING

So now I humbly come to you for assistance.
Thank you in Advance

Since you have seem to covered all the basics of exorcising the gremlin, I won't ask you to check the grounds again.

If this bad boy just showed up I would look back at the ground connections and wires on the core support...under the flaps, both sides. Mebbe Scooter did a Fandango on the wire connections and just need some di-electric grease on the bare metal and ground wire to have him slide out.

Filthy Beast,
Thanks for the quick reply....
I went out and looked under the flaps, and didn't see scooter..
Him and I have been playing hide and seek for a couple of weeks now,
I forgot to mention that while under the dash, I do have a pulse thru the white/blue stripe wire from the column to harness for my right turn signal but loose it just past the harness.
What has me boonfoggled is why I have four ways at right front, but not while indicating a right turn.

You're welcome.

The same Scooter gremlin gets around, I'll tell ya....Ran into him on a '70 Challenger T/A, 340 six pac a few weeks ago.

Turns out the **** on the bulbs (#1157) were worn into a convex shape not making a good connection. The filaments were fine.

Also, this gentleman had restored this vehicle to a numbers matching, date coded, period correct paint job. Everything was mint...including the paint on the inside of the tin parts where the marker lights and turn signals mounted. He could get one side to blink but not the other. 4 ways all worked as well as the dash indicator lights.
Scooter - you guessed it - had bled the paint to where the ground connections were not conductive. A bit of sandpaper and grease, new bulbs and he was good to go.

Can't help you with the wiring part at the moment....I'll check later. Could it be in the plastic switch behind the horn?

I think I'll try again, tomorrow mornin' while the coffee is still hot, and my eyeballs be straight,

I'm no expert in these things but I had a similar sounding problem with mine. Indicator on the dash wouldn't light at all and the signal would only work when you held the switch up hard. I tested for power at the main column harness plug under the dash and there wasn't anything for the right hand signal wire. Ended up being a melted wire in the signal switch harness within the column. Switched that out for a new one and everything worked perfect...

And just one more thing I forgot to include, if memory serves there is two different wires that leave the signal switch for right hand signal. One front and one rear that pairs with the brake light trigger. Sounds to me like you have a similar problem I had. I would suggest testing the appropriate wires in that crescent shaped connector for the column to make sure the signal switch is sendinf what it should.

Chasing Scooter

Today I removed my steering wheel to check continuity at the turn signal/hazard switch,
I still have Hazards at front and rear and at the dash,
But now I have completely lost left and right turn signals.
ie...front, rear, and at dash

I am using a test light and have mocked up a drawing as well as continuing to use Electrical diagrams with color coordinating highlights to verify which wire is which.
(apologies in advance)
this is my attempt at drawing out the switch wires

Here is the OEM diagram

I Highlighted the wires I believe I needed to trace

I think I may have upset scooter (the gremlin) because like I said I no longer have functioning turn signals.
Would it be recommended to go ahead and replace turn signal wiring harness
part # D3TA13B302-AB?
I have an extra unmolested manual column already on standby.

If you can get a continuity tester, or better yet an Ohm-meter, you ought to check each wire in your suspect harness, before replacing. Then test all of your 'through' circuits on the switch.

Still trying to find Scooter...

I had purchased a multi meter and had pulled the crescent shaped connector apart to check continuity...
And all is well between harness and switch.
then reconnected part A and part B of harness (Connecter 713 on drawing)

Then checked continuity on the firewall side of the harness
And still good continuity..
I also bench tested my spare column then did a plug and play in my truck.
both came up solidly good.

I guess it is now time to start throwing parts at it

Ok I think I have my gremlin cornered in the turn signal switch....
I have replaced both turn signal and hazard relays,
and put everything back together and still nothing to the rear (even with new tail lamp assemblies)
Took a gamble and I grabbed my spare column and did a plug and play and now I have 4 ways at the four corners (compared to only at front of truck)
drivers side is back to normal ( all three blink, front, rear, and indicator)
passenger side I have blink at the back and indicator but now the front right just stays brightly lit,
I have a new turn signal switch on order from Dennis Carpenter.
cross your fingers on my behalf that this will exorcise scoooter
thanks for letting me vent guys

Subscribed because I now am having alot of the same issues you are, BUT ON THREE trucks at once, I think Scooter has jumped states and is here trying to set up shop here.

Thanks for the diagrams and suggestions on what to trouble shoot.

I had a similar problem. Some times the bulb wouldn't light up. Some times it had a weak glow, wouldn't blink etc.... Turned out it was the front sockets. If I wiggled the wires at the sockets everything would work fine. All looked good etc....guess they we're not always making good contact with the bulbs? So I replaced them. All issues went away!

Later, Shortbox4x4
