yeah see I am stuck on which is going to be cheaper in the long run, fan clutch, or e-fans...
with the price of fuel these days.........................
plus don't forget,there is also one more added benefit;
the large heavy rotating mass is now off the water pump which means that lasts longer too.not that these are not known for lasting a very long time anyway,so kinda a small point.but still.
I would think long and hard on the e fan if you run any long distances.
It is one thing easing around and pulling 1 mile grades, it is totally different pulling 5000 pounds at 70 for hours at a time and 10 mile grades.
Another thing to think about, if that e fan goes out on the road, can you wait while one is ordered,
If your fan clutch is not lasting there is something wrong, maybe a fan out of balance.
The fan clutch is USUALLY not hard to change. I built a wrench to fit them years ago, but have had to take them off on the road several times, with a pair of channel locks.
You want to loosen the nut (LEFT HAND THREADS) before you loosen any fan belts.
I have seen several that came off especially when a rig was started and just drove a block or so, then shut off.
There are several grades of locktite, you can get some that is not hard to remove.
I used a hammer gun. Did the whole job in 30 minutes.
