I got a headliner setup form LMC truck. I replaced the crappy speakers it came with for some infinity speakers and love it. Way better than hacking holes in everything.

Mine are mounted in the front bottom door panels. They have heavy grilles because I'm always kicking the crap out of the drivers side.

I put a 6X9 bookshelf speaker sideways on the hump, right up under the heater/blower outlet...can still get a small console between it and the seat...dash speaker is the original Ford speaker...crackly, but you can hear it...backed by a Dual AM/FM cassette in dash. A bud of mine tried to convince me to put an underdash 8-track in it...like the truck we ran around in the 70s, but didn't to go that retro.

that looks to me to be a wood called MDF. that is what almost all installers use. its really dense and smooth.

It is particle board MDF I used 3/4 " an built it out so there was no interference between the speakers an the windows. The 6x9's are normal sized.

If ya look on LMC truck, that have a headliner which has spots for 4 4" speakers as well as your aftermarket stereo (or cb or w/e) I also put a couple 4" speakers in the pillar behind the door before I got the headliner and those worked great too.

I'm doing this.
I have the speakers but need to find time to make a board to hold them.
